Controller
Thomas M. Cooley Law School seeks a Controller at its Lansing, Michigan campus. The position reports to the Senior Vice President of Operations and Finance. The Controller is responsible for overall operation of Business Office functions, including payroll, payables, student accounts and other receivables, financial reporting, tax and regulatory compliance. Also supervises Business Office staff.
Duties include and are not limited to the following: financial statements, audits, payroll administration, various tax filings and reporting, retirement plan disclosures, grant reporting, Title IV calculations, transaction approvals and payment authorizations, accreditation and regulatory reporting, Business Office staff supervision, and assisting Senior Vice President of Operations and Finance as needed.
Successful candidates will possess all or many of the following qualifications and/or skills: a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a minimum of three years of related experience with a Certified Public Account (CPA) license. One to three years of management experience, preferred. Public accounting experience and exposure to auditing higher education Financial Accounting Standards Board Institutions, desirable.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel required), Google Suite, accounting software (Jenzabar), and attendance (TimeClock Plus); knowledge of audit process, testing protocol, tax, compliance, grant and financial regulations, industry trends and accounting updates; ability to think independently and make decisions, prioritize and delegate work; strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to work in a fast-paced environment, complete projects timely, and multi-task; excellent organization and time-management skills; high attention to detail; ability to handle and maintain confidential information, and to interact positively with individuals from a variety of diverse backgrounds.
